What is breathing in the theme of the work, 'Breath of Nature'?

It refers to vitality, and vitality is defined as being alive. In other words, feeling the breath on the paused screen can be interpreted as saying that the work is alive and breathing. Korea has a long and unique history of indigo dyeing. Korean traditional indigo dyeing process has been designated a cultural treasure (Intangible Cultural Heritage No.115).

 

Use materials from nature in the indigo dyeing process. Korean traditional natural dyeing is a dyeing technique designated by human cultural properties among various natural dyeing and is dyed only with natural materials without using chemical materials. When 'Niram' (Indio-colored pigment) is made using seashell ash, rice wine, and starch syrup to ferment 'Niram' just like wine, in this way, a work called 'Breath of Nature' expressed with materials obtained from nature becomes a work that embraces vitality.

작품의 주제인 “자연의 숨결” 에서의 숨결이란? 생명력을 말하며 생명력이란 살아있다는 말로 정의된다.

 

즉, 멈춰 있는 화면에서 숨결을 느낀다고 함은 작품이 살아 숨 쉰다는 말로 해석이 될 수 있다. 한국의 전통 천연 쪽 염색은 여러 천연염색 중 인간문화재가 지정된 염색 기법으로, 쪽을 이용해 만들어진 니람을 항아리에 넣고 잿물을 붓고 막걸리를 넣으면 자연의 숨결을 따라 쪽물이 익어가게 된다. 그렇게 만들어진 맑고 고운 색의 쪽빛은 자연 발효된 살아있는 쪽물에서만 얻어지게 된다. 양모를 포함, 자연에서 얻은 재료로 표현된 “자연의 숨결” 이란 작품은 이렇게 생명력을 품은 작품이 된다
